EMIS systems are used by more practices than any other GP system.
However, although EMIS is easy to use, it can take some time to find out where all the information you need is - or could be stored. To make life more difficult, different practices may file information in different places, and have different ways of working, such as the proper way to summon patients from the waiting room.
EMIS for Beginners is intended to give people who understand consultation but are unfamiliar with EMIS a quick introduction to using EMIS in consultation: it is not intended as a full training, and does not attempt to cover anything other than use of EMIS in consultation: it is aimed at sessional doctors, GP Registrars, new partners, medical students and doctors in foundation years with a GP rotation.
At present - June 2010 - it only covers LV and PCS: we have plans to extend to EMIS Web if this approach is useful.
Please supply feedback and criticism - preferably constructive! - and fill in the survey
